Growing up, my parents never had a new car.  They always drove cars that were at least a few years old, even maybe 10 or more years old. There was just one time when we got a brand new car, and that thing was a lemon.  Figures.  We never got a new car again.

When I was learning how to drive, in my parents station wagon, by the way, there were all sorts of things that I had to remember to check and it can be a little overwhelming when you are just learning how to drive.  It's not just trying to focus and keep the car on the road, don't speed and obey the rules of the road.  It's all of the other things that can go wrong.

HEADLIGHTS

Most new cars have automatic headlights.  You no longer have to worry if you have left the headlights on or not.  There used to be announcements at events "The person with the blue car license plate blah blah blah - your headlights on on".  And then someone would run outside to save their battery from going dead.  No more worries!  Although now we have the issue of people not actually turning on their headlights when it's foggy. In those situations your taillights will not necessarily be on when your daytime running lights are on.

KEYS

No longer do we need to worry about keys being locked in your car.  That is, if you even have keys.  Most new cars have push button start, and just a keyfob.  If you happen to have left the keyfob in your car and you try and lock the doors with the button on the door handle, the car will generally beep at you as an alert that your key fob is still in the car.  No worries there either!  That has happened to me on more than one occasion.

LIGHTER BURNING

There used to be a time when you might have to worry about kids burning themselves with the cigarette lighter.  Since there are no more lighters included in a car, and they have now been replaced with a charging port, no worries there either!  Plus, maybe don't smoke in the car either.

There are some other things that you don't have to worry about with a new car, depending on the model and also how new your car is.  Parking assistance for people who are not great at parallel parking.  Which might be most of us.  No more worrying about drifting off the road or another lane. Or at least there is something that lets you know so you can adjust if necessary.  Most new cars have lane assistance which buzzes your steering wheel if you go across the center lane.  AND some cars will also let you know in your side mirror if there is another vehicle in your blind spot.  Awesome.

Sometimes technology is a great thing.
