Christmas History Made: Record High Falls in Rochester

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The weather over the Christmas holiday was historic in Rochester this year.

That’s according to the National Weather Service, which is indicating the Rochester area saw the warmest highs ever recorded since record keeping began in the city in 1886. 

Christmas Eve day and Christmas Eve night also saw record-setting temperatures. Some of the records broken had stood since 1936. 

The high reported at the Rochester Airport reached 50 on Christmas Eve Day. That breaks the previous record high of 41 set back in 2021. 

The Christmas eve night low of 44 was also a record, breaking the previous record warm low of 36 which was also set in 1936.  The Christmas Day high at the Rochester Airport climbed to 53, breaking the previous record high of 50 set back in 1936. 

Rochester was the only community in the La Crosse National Weather Service’s Southeastern Minnesota, southwestern Wisconsin and northern Iowa coverage area to see a record high on Christmas Day. 

Previous record high temperatures in the region started falling on Friday. The National Weather Service says the warm air mass that produced the historically warm high temperatures is set to move out of the area on Tuesday.
