Man Arrested After Shootout With Minneapolis Park Police Officer
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Officials in Minneapolis are reporting the arrest of a 24-year-old man following an exchange of gunfire with a Minneapolis Park Police Officer earlier this week.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night at Lake Harriet. A news release says an officer was sent to investigate a suspicious vehicle that was illegally parked and blocking access to a boat launch. Based upon preliminary information, officials say he was confronted by a man claiming to be the owner of the vehicle who became combative with the officer.
At some point during the altercation, the man allegedly fired shots in the direction of the officer and the officer returned fire. No injuries were reported, but the officer’s squad car was damaged when it was struck by bullets.
The news release says the suspect then fled on foot. Other Park Police and Minneapolis Police officers then responded and arrested the 24-year-old man a short distance away. It also indicates the officer was wearing a body camera and it was recording during the incident.
