That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Tuesday. The homeless man’s alleged attacks on the officers occurred on Sunday.

He’s also accused of committing the robbery that police responded to a northwest Rochester apartment complex to investigate. Rochester Police Officers encountered the suspect screaming at the robbery victim, the complaint says.

The man who reported the robbery told police the suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Daniel Zachary Hillman, struck him with a flashlight and took a bike trailer along with some of his property, the complaint states.

Hillman told an officer that the trailer belonged to his friend. Officers then attempted to arrest Hillman.

He responded by wrapping his legs around an officer, kicking an officer then head-butting the side of a squad car several times. He also resisted attempts by police to get him into the squad car, the complaint says.

Based on his behavior, police took Hillman to an emergency room to be medically evaluated, the charges say. He was cleared and began resisting police as they attempted to place him in handcuffs.

The charges allege Hillman made a closed fist in an apparent attempt to punch officers. He’s also accused of trying to kick, head-butt and bite police.

Police got Hillman under control and brought him to the Olmsted County Jail.
