Rochester’s Highway 14 Project Finished Ahead of Holiday
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Many motorists in the Rochester area have a reason to celebrate as the busy Labor Day holiday travel period is about to begin.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this afternoon the completion of the Highway 14 will resurfacing project in south Rochester. According to the news release, the newly blacktopped roadway is now fully open to traffic.
The project began on May 5 and involved resurfacing Highway 14 from Highway 52 to the intersection with Crossroads Drive Southwest, and from 3rd Avenue Southeast to Marion Road. It also included extensive sidewalk repairs and replacements, crosswalk improvements, and new pedestrian ramps.
It was originally scheduled to be completed in early August, but weather-related delays and added pavement work at several intersections extended the timeline. With traffic restricted to one lane in each direction throughout the corridor, motorists often faced significant delays during peak traffic times.

Looking ahead, MnDOT is planning another major Highway 14 project in Rochester. Reconstruction of the intersection of South Broadway and Highway 14—one of the city’s busiest intersections—is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027.
