ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- Young musicians have been hard at work with their new bands.

The annual School of Rock started last week and will culminate with a big concert this Thursday. Fifty-five kids ages 12 to 18 years old are enrolled in the camp run by the Wirth Center for the Performing Arts.

Organizer Libby Bell says the students gain a lot of valuable experience in a short period of time.

In a very short period of time, the kids get a lot of knowledge and experience that they can take with them into not just other music experiences but also other life experiences.  They build a lot of confidence through camp.

Organizer Anna Bovitz says they get a lot accomplished in a short period of time.

A lot of them have already chosen their songs, so they will be learning those songs, learning how they all fit together as a band. They will also be coming up with a band name, we'll be taking band pictures, and creating really fun band posters.

The camp is at the Calvary Community Church.

The School of Rock Concert at the Paramount Center for the Arts is this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students, plus fees. It is open to the general public and you can buy your tickets on the Paramount website.

Como Park Zoo

Como Park Zoo has been a staple in St. Paul since it first opened in 1897. The park, zoo, and conservatory continue to evolve, and the attraction remains free to attend. If you can't visit the zoo, check out the photos below of many of its residents.
