Americans eat about 31 donuts per year...every single one of us.  Soocial shared that fact and also noted that more than 37% of us eat at least one donut a month.  Put all of us together, the guess is that Americans eat over 10 billion donuts every year.

For those of us with a sweet tooth, living near a Kwik Trip or by Hanisch Bakery in Red Wing, Minnesota, is a dangerous...in a good way.  But we also know that there is one specific day when all donut lovers come together with big smiles on our faces...National Donut Day!

• Stop in a Duck Donuts store and you can take home a free classic donut - no purchase necessary and available at participating locations.

• Stop in at a Dunkin' on June 5th and get a free doughnut when you buy any beverage.

• The deal for a free Long John with any in-store purchase is sitting in the Kwik Rewards app.  Check your app and grab it if you want this free deal.

• Rewards members at Paris Baguette can choose from a free sugar mochi donut or a free small twisted donut with any purchase.

• In the past, Taco John's offered free Mexican doughnut bites with any purchase in-app or in-store.  You had to have the app downloaded for it to apply.  I haven't seen anything about an offer this year, so if you are curious, check their app.

How Did National Donut Day Become a Tradition in the United States?

National Donut Day started back in World War I to show some love and thanks to our veterans.  The women at The Salvation Army who served the donuts were called the  "Donut Lassies".  It was more than just a warm donut that warmed the hearts of the men and women fighting in the war, it was also the smiles.
