Everyone has at least one canned good in their pantry that they could live without. Soup, vegetables, fruit, tuna...if you've got a can to spare, I've got a simple task for you to do on Saturday, May 10th. I promise, this little act of kindness won't go unnoticed.

Mailboxes in Rochester, Minnesota, Are Filling Up With More than Letters on Saturday, May 10th
Every single day, there are about 383.3 million pieces of mail processed and delivered to its destination every day. The United States Postal Service processes about 16 million pieces of mail every hour. And according to the National Association of Letter Carriers, letter carriers "serve 169 delivery points nationwide". And on Saturday, May 10th, they are going above and beyond for our community.
Here is another number to know - one in ten Americans faces hunger every day in the United States. We might live in the town with Mayo Clinic, but this does not mean that our community is exempt from this statistic.
This weekend, while you are going out to the mailbox to add your bills and put the red flag up, there is one more thing to add that postal workers will be collecting - non-perishable food items.
Stamp Out Hunger Back in the Rochester, Minnesota Community on May 10th
On Saturday, May 10th, put a bag of nonperishable food items near your mailbox. The United States Postal Service will be picking these items up all day and bringing them to a local organization, the Salvation Army in Rochester, Minnesota.
Volunteers Needed To Help Sort Items From Stamp Out Hunger Event
After the United States Postal Workers collect the nonperishable food items for Stamp Out Hunger from mailboxes, the items will need to be sorted and organized. When Did Stamp Out Hunger Start?
1991 was the first time Stamp Out Hunger took place. It started by helped out food banks and pantries in 10 cities and was a huge success.
Since then, Stamp Out Hunger has had a few revamps and is now held annually on the 2nd Saturday in May. Today, this is known as the largest one-day food drive in the nation and has delivered more than 1.82 billion pounds of food to local food banks and pantries in the past 30 years.
