One of the highest honors in the culinary world is getting a Michelin Star. Getting THREE Michelin stars is actually considered the highest honor a restaurant can get. Throughout the years, Minnesota has always been bypassed.

But now, the exciting news has been announced that Minneapolis restaurants will finally have the chance to be rated and be included in the latest Michelin Guide!

What are Michelin Stars?

Michelin stars were actually created by the tire company, Michelin. And still, to this day, the tire company, Michelin, is who hands out Michelin stars.

They hire people that are called Michelin Guide Inspectors who have a "Bachelor’s degree in culinary, food studies, hotel management or equivalent degree", "10+ years of experience in hotel, restaurant, or other relevant industry", plus many more qualifications.

So even though it's a tire company, the people rating these restaurants seem to know what they're talking about.

Minneapolis Restaurants Being Rated for Michelin Stars

After years of being overlooked, Minnesota is finally going to be added to the new 'American Great Lakes' Michelin guide.

Over the next year or so, they'll be traveling to Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh to try restaurants, determine star ratings, and decide which restaurants will be added to their latest guide.

The 'American Great Lakes' guide won't come out until 2027, so we'll have to wait a while until we know which of our Minneapolis restaurants will be awards a Michelin star.

St. Paul Notably Left Out of Michelin Star Ratings

You probably noticed that St. Paul restaurants aren't going to be reviewed. It's true, and really sad because St. Paul has some amazing restaurants too.

There's a chef who spoke with Minnesota Monthly and said, "non-Minneapolis restaurants need to think about their locations right now, because they will be left out of the conversation about the best restaurants in our area".

All 37 Minnesota Restaurants that Have Been Featured on the Food Network

Many Minnesota restaurants have been featured on the Food Network over the years. Some have closed now, but I checked out the Food Networks website, the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives website, and TVFoodMaps.com to find all of the Minnesota restaurants that have been featured on their channel in the past and found these 37 (in no particular order) that are still open.
