The most recent rankings from The New York Times of the best bakeries across the US have been released. They shout out 22 of the best of the best and not one but two of them are bakeries in Minnesota.

One of the bakeries I'm extra upset about because I was right by their shop not too long ago and we didn't stop!

There are bakeries from all across the country on the list from The New York Times and they consist of their favorites over the past year of travels. Writer Brian Gallagher says, "Across the United States, in major cities and small towns, a bakery renaissance is underway".

As an amateur, at-home baker myself, I love this!

These bakeries feature some incredible bakes from across the country. But for two of those bakeries, we don't have to go to another state to check out.

The Best Bakeries in Minnesota

Bakery number one is Diane's Place in Minneapolis.

Diane's Place is, surprise, owned by a woman named Diane. She has an impressive background in baking, including five James Beard semifinalist nominations and working at many critically acclaimed restaurants.

Diane's Place opened not too long ago, in 2023, and is actually a restaurant but they evidently sell some incredible pastries and other baked goods.

The New York Times writes, "Diners who come in for lunch and dinner are asked if they'd like to start with a course of baked goods. The answer should always be yes."

Bakery number two is Flour and Flower Bakery in St. Joseph.

I ate at the restaurant Krewe in St. Joseph just a few weeks ago. Literally out the back door is Flour and Flower. I was debating going into the bakery after brunch but we were tired and decided to head out. Now I'm mad that we did that.

Flour and Flower was founded by Chef Erin Lucas.

They specialize in pies (Chef Erin "grew up eating [pies] for breakfast on trips to grandma's house") but they make all sorts of other pastries, breads, and they also do pizzas! They always use local ingredients when possible.

They're called Flour and Flower because they also sell locally grown flower bouquets.

The New York Times writes, "[Erin] is a big-city pastry chef whose breads and pastries ... give locals good reason to wake up early."
