When to See Rochester’s Make-Up 4th of July Fireworks Show This Week

The Rochester 4th of July make-up fireworks show is coming up this week!

The 4th of July fireworks show did not go as planned. After the underwhelming show, the city announced there would be a make-up show. A few weeks later, all of the details had been worked out and now the day is almost here. Here's what you need to know for the make-up show.

Rochester, MN 4th of July Fireworks Show 2026

In case you missed what happened with the 4th of July fireworks show, it was supposed to start at 10 PM on July 4th. Then, suddenly some storms developed, so to get the show in before the storms they moved the start time up to 9:30 PM.

People were set up early waiting for the show. And waiting... The first firework didn't start shooting off until 9:45 and then ended suddenly just a few minutes later.

We learned what happened a few days later and reported on it:

According to the company, the extreme heat during the day took a massive toll on the crew. Combine that brutal heat with the sudden, last-minute decision to bump the launch time up by 30 minutes to beat the incoming storms, and the crew simply ran out of time.

The city then worked out a make-up date with the fireworks display company.

When to See the Rochester, MN 4th of July Make-Up Fireworks Show

The make-up show will be on Friday, September 4th at Soldier's Field, starting at 9 PM.

In case something happens where the display needs to be rescheduled again, the make-up date for the make-up date is the following day, Saturday, September 5th.

The city also writes that the company behind the fireworks display, J&M Displays Inc., is adding "a $10,000 enhancement to the September 4 display at no additional cost to the City."

J&M Displays and the city are also "implementing additional measures to support a successful and reliable show, including using a different firing system".

“Since July 4, the City has remained focused on delivering a strong and reliable fireworks experience for the Rochester community. We appreciate J&M Displays Inc.’s commitment to enhancing the rescheduled show at no additional cost to the City."
