Have you looked at your bank account today? Because if you haven't you may want to take a look. Many Minnesotans are finding some extra money in their accounts. Why is it there?

This is something that's been in talks for a while now. I saw a post from a friend on Facebook letting everyone know that she had noticed this extra money in her account and others should check too.

Sure enough, my husband and I have it as well. It's those 'Governor Walz rebate checks' that people have been talking about.

Walz Rebate Checks

Originally Governor Walz had tried for $1,000 checks. There was back and forth about it and in the end, the amount that was settled on for these rebate checks was $260 per person ($520 for couples who file taxes jointly) and $260 per dependant up to three dependants.

You qualify for this rebate if you filed your 2021 taxes individually and reported a gross adjusted income of $75,000 or less or if you filed jointly and, as a couple, reported a gross adjusted income of $150,000 or less.

Why Are We Getting Money from Minnesota?

The reason we're getting these rebate checks is because of a huge budget surplus in Minnesota. Governor Walz decided he wanted to give that surplus back to the residents of Minnesota and so that's how we've now ended up with this extra money. Pretty sweet!

When Will I Get My Walz Rebate Check?

If you haven't seen this check in your bank account yet, never fear, these just started to roll out this week. KSTP reports that, according to the Governor's office, "all rebates are expected to be delivered by the end of September."
