This Minnesota Cottage Looks Like a Hallmark Christmas Movie
Every year, without fail, I'm convinced this will be the year I book a warm holiday getaway. Trade the slippers for flip flops, and the snow for the sand. And every year, Minnesota calls my bluff with some absolute magic that pulls me right back in.
Case in point: this breathtaking stone cottage on Lake Sylvia.
If you’ve ever wanted to accidentally land in a Hallmark Christmas movie, this is it. The cottage sits a whole six feet from the shoreline, surrounded by snow-covered pines and warm lights glowing off the water, it's the kind of winter scenery that makes you forget you were just complaining about the cold.

Honestly? My perfect winter weekend is sitting by a fireplace, holding a hot coffee, and watching a blizzard roll over the lake while I stay warm inside. It's like being inside a snow globe. Try to tell me there’s a better setup - you can’t.
And that's just the setting. The inside of the cottage is just as cozy. There are two bedrooms, including one that literally overlooks the lake, so you can wake up to a sunrise that looks like a Christmas card. A second bedroom with built-in bunks for four (each with its own reading light, which is adorable).
There’s also a little eating nook that is practically begging for some family competition at board games and endless junk food.

Sure, summer on the lake is great, but this place was built for cold weather.
If you can actually bring yourself to leave the cottage, there's plenty to do nearby. You’re minutes away from Powder Ridge if you ski, surrounded by snowshoe and cross-country trails, or you can literally walk out the back door to ice fish.
Whether you're planning a family getaway, a weekend with the girls, or just need a few days to unplug and disappear, this little spot makes a pretty convincing argument for embracing a Minnesota winter.
