Are you feeling more relaxed these days? A new survey says Minnesotans are the least stressed of any state in the country.

Ah, the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average, as the old Lake Wobegon series on the show A Prairie Home Companion told us back in the 80s and 90s.

And these days, the North Star State is a place where no one apparently has any stress. Well, that's not entirely true-- we may have stress, but not as much as other states. That's if you believe the results of this new CNBC survey, which just named Minnesota as the Least-Stressed State in the Country.

According to CNBC:

Minnesota is the least stressed state in the United States, according a Wallet Hub report. Residents of the state say they experience the least amount of money- and family-related stress. Minnesota also has the second-highest average hours of sleep per night, right behind Colorado.

So just how did CNBC and Wallet Hub determine that we were so stress-free here in Minnesota? They looked at the 41 different metrics using sources like the Census Bureau to compare categories like unemployment rate, income growth, rate of separation and divorce, mental health, and unaffordability of visits to the doctor.

CNBC also said the final ranking was scored across four key dimensions, including work-related stress, money-related stress, family-related stress and health and safety-related stress.

It wasn't included, but I think the Twins' success in the post-season this year, breaking that 18-year stint without a playoff victory, also might have helped, right? I mean, it couldn't have hurt the Bold North's effort to take the top spot, could it?
Meanwhile, our neighbors to the east behind the Cheddar Curtain over in Wisconsin placed 16th on the Least-Stressed States in America list in 2023, while the folks to the south of the Gopher State in Iowa came in ranked 6th on the list.
Here are the 10 least Stressed-Out States in America (per Wallet Hub via CNBC)
  1. Minnesota
  2. Utah
  3. New Hampshire
  4. South Dakota
  5. Massachusetts
  6. Iowa
  7. New Jersey

Minnesota Counties Bigger Than Entire States In The US

Of Minnesota's 87 counties, it turns out a sizable portion of them are larger than some entire states in the United States. 11 counties are bigger than at least one (in some cases more than one) state. Here's what counties are on that list and which states they are bigger than in land area.
