South Beloit Teacher Overcomes Tragedy To Inspire Students And Community
South Beloit, Illinois teacher Valerie Baumann, recognized as 97ZOK's Teacher of the Week, creates a scholarship foundation in memory of her late son, Jack, at Prairie Hill Elementary.

Congratulations to Valerie Baumann from Prairie Hill Elementary in South Beloit, Illinois.
Valeria was nominated by Michelle Haren, she writes,
I'd like to nominate Valerie Baumann of Prairie Hill Elementary in South Beloit, IL. Valerie is an incredible teacher and an all-around awesome person. In Oct 2022, Valerie's youngest son, Jack, lost his life in a tragic accident. She has honored his memory by creating a memorial foundation for scholarships for Pre-K education. She has also poured all her extra love and energy into the children in her classroom. Thanks to Mrs. Baumann, my granddaughter Harper, has a great foundation for the beginning of her academic career. Mrs. Baumann empowers each child to grow, play, and learn. She is concerned about their social and emotional well-being, too.
Harper said it best when asked if Mrs. Baumann's name should be nominated. According to Harper, "Mrs. Baumann should get all the prizes in the whole world. She's super kind and gives hugs and I love her SO much. Mrs. Baumann tells us to do our best--no sloppy choppy. She starts our day with Rock 'n' Roll--I love "Eye of the Tiger". Before I started kindergarten, I didn't know anything, now I can read and do math. Mrs. Baumann is the best in the whole universe."
As Teacher of the Week, Valerie was surprised with a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes and money to spend at WM Day Spa Salon.
