Dangerous Illinois Storms 3 Days Away with Hail, Tornado Threat

It's April in Northern Illinois so that means we could go from snow and freeze warnings to severe thunderstorms and fire weather warnings within 24 hours.

We're about to have another roller coaster weather pattern in the Rockford region as the weekend nears.

Freeze Warning Threatens Tender Plants on Thursday Morning (4/25)

The National Weather Service has a Freeze Warning in effect until 8 am on Thursday when freezing temperatures can kill crops, and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Temperatures will rise back into the lower 60s with mostly sunny skies on Thursday, but then several days of rain, wind, and severe thunderstorms are settling into the Stateline area.

Weekend Ahead Could Bring Dangerous Storms and Tornadoes to the Area

The current forecast from the Weather Channel is predicting rain beginning on Friday and high temps struggling to get up to 60.

Saturday will be warm and windy with a high temperature hitting 80 and stray thunderstorms popping up, and then a potential for severe thunderstorms on Saturday night when the low drops to 64.

More severe thunderstorms are likely on Sunday and into Sunday evening according to the latest Weather Channel forecast, and temperatures are expected to hover in the lower 70s.

Next Week Begins with Rain, and Then Mid-70s for 8 Straight Days

After a high temperature in the mid-60s on Monday with a 50 percent chance of morning showers, the rest of next week should be in the mid-70s and mostly sunny in the Rockford region.
