If you enjoy walking the Rockford neighborhoods then you'll be thrilled to hear about the construction of new sidewalks and paths through the city.

According to a press release from the Public Works Department, 3600 feet of sidewalk will be installed around Spring Creek and Shaw Woods Drive with the "realignment of all four crosswalks through the intersection, curb and gutter, driveway replacements, lawn restoration, and erosion control."

The project is expected to be completed by August 2, and until then motorists driving in the construction area should use caution, according to the contractor.

Another major sidewalk project has been delayed on Spring Creek and Parkview.

In a press release, the Public Works Department said the project includes the "addition of a sidewalk along the East side of Parkview Avenue from Spring Creek Road to Illinois School of Medicine including pedestrian improvements at the intersection of Parkview Avenue and Spring Creek Road."

Traffic control will also be in place until the project is scheduled to be completed on July 8, 2024.

The Riverside Boulevard Path project has life again but it will take several weeks to complete. According to a press release from the Rockford Public Works Department, the project consists of "installing a new multi-use path to connect to the Rockford Park District’s Path to allow a safer crossing of Riverside Boulevard at the Cliffbreakers entrance."

Lane closures are expected to be in place along the bridge, so be aware of workers and vehicles in the area.

According to the press release, these projects are possible because of "the City of Rockford 1% Infrastructure Sales Tax."
