The city set a budget of $137,912 and work started on the Kasson Public School in 1918 (some sources say 1917). 103 (or 4) years later, work will once again begin. This time, though, to transform the historic building into upscale apartments for seniors.

Records indicate Kasson Historic Properties LLC, managed by Paul Warshauer, is the development group for the Water Tower Place Apartments in the 1918 Kasson School (listed on the National Register of Historic Places). According to a page from the Kasson City Council Minutes, it will...

...contain 28-32 units with fine appointments and classical finishes. Residents will choose from a mixture of one bedroom, two bedroom and several split-level units.  Covered parking, garages, activity room, library, community room, fitness center and community gardens are proposed. This apartment building is for independent
seniors. This project is not assisted living, Section 8 or 42 housing, income based affordable housing or a skilled nursing facility.

On the same property is the 1895 Kasson Water Tower, like the school, on the National Register. In fact, the school system owned the land on which they built the water tower, so instead of rent, they got their water free.

It should be noted the school isn't just over a hundred years old, the community has had to rally behind it several times to save it from the wrecking ball. Well done, Kasson. Here's to a successful development.

Let's Take A Day Trip To Some Of Kasson, Minnesota's Historical Spots

Some of Kasson Minnesota's Historical and Interesting Sites (and sights!)

I love visiting Kasson, Minnesota. It's not just the 1918 Public School that I love to look at, but the water tower, the library, and all the small businesses working and especially the people. With the news of Kasson's 1918 Public School being turned into high-end senior apartments, I thought I'd share some of my favorite Kasson things and moments.
