The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights played as the home team in Lake City in their season opener Monday night and fell in a see-saw game 5-4.  Knights Head Coach Kirby VanDeWalker was happy with the fight his team displayed and told KDHL/POWER 96 for the first game and having no practices on a field outdoors it was a well played game.

The game was moved to Lake City because the field in Wanamingo is not ready.  Coach VanDeWalker said the Tigers field was awesome with the snowcapped bluffs in the background.

Sophomore Owen Hilke started the game on the mound for Kenyon-Wanamingo going the first 4 1/3 innings and allowing 2 runs, 1 earned and 3 hits.  Tyler Ryan finished the game with 3 runs allowed, all earned, 6 hits given up.  Coach VanDeWalker said Ryan had a great day at the plate with 3 hits, a sacrifice fly and 3 RBI.

The two other hits for the Knights came off the bats of Tate Erlandson and Cole Flom.  K-W had a 3-2 lead going into the 7th inning and got the first out of the inning but Lake City rallied to take a 5-2 lead.  In the bottom of the 7th Kenyon-Wanamingo plated two and had the tying run in scoring position when the game ended.

The Knights travel to Byron Thursday for their next game.  First pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
