Kenyon-Wanamingo Pulls Away Late in Win over Goodhue

The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights and Goodhue Wildcats had a 1-1 game most of the way today in Wanamingo before the Knights scored five runs in the sixth inning to win 6-1.  Kenyon-Wanamingo's first batter junior Tate Erlandson singled to start the bottom of the first and scored on an error.

Goodhue junior catcher Conor O'Reilly worked the count full to start the second inning before clubbing a double.  Senior Colin Warren jumped on the first pitch he saw from Knights starter senior Colin Sviggum for an RBI single.  Sviggum threw the first four innings with 3 strikeouts, 1 walk and 3 hits allowed along with the one run.  Sophomore Owen Hilke came in relief for the final three innings to record a strikeout, two walks and one hit allowed.

Knights Head Coach Kirby VanDeWalker noted with a doubleheader Thursday following another game tomorrow they wanted to keep both arms available for the doubleheader.

Kenyon-Wanamingo had nine batters come to the plate in their 5 run sixth inning.  Senior designated hitter Tyler Ryan walked to open the inning.  Following a strikeout sophomore catcher Tyler Craig was walked before another strikeout was recorded.  Sophomore Alec Johnson crunched a two RBI single.  Sviggum followed with a single and an error got three more runs across the plate.

Senior Carter Danielson pitched for the Wildcats who had 5 errors in the game according to the K-W scorebook.  The Knights had 2 errors.

Goodhue                     1 run   4 hits   5 errors

The Knights are 4-11 and host Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Tuesday in Wanamingo.  Logan Anderson will have the call on KDHL Radio beginning about 4:45 p.m.  The two teams are in the same section.

Goodhue closes their season at home Thursday and Friday against Cannon Falls and Randolph respectively and are 5-10 following today's game.
