The Faribault Lakers defeated the Lonsdale Aces 11-4 today in the last game of the regular season for both teams.  Faribault will be the #3 seed in the Region 3C playoffs meaning they don't have to play until Sunday.

Lonsale ended up being the #7 seed after finishing the season tied with St. Benedict and Prior Lake.  Prior Lake won the tiebreaker with both teams to capture the #6 seed.  Lonsdale owned the tiebreaker with St. Benedict.

In today's game Egan Bonde started pitching for Faribault going the first 7 innings and one batter into the 8th to pick up his 4th win of the season. Bonde threw 98 pitches, 69 for strikes allowing 6 hits with 6 strikeouts, 2 walks, 4 runs.

Joey Grote faced 4 batters to finish the 8th inning.  Matt Lane pitched the final inning.  Grote threw 17 pitches, 9 strikes with 1 walk.  Lane tossed 12 times to home plate with 9 strikes, 1 hit allowed.

The Lakers scored 4 runs in the bottom of the second inning against starting Aces pitcher Adam Fjerstad. Lane opened the inning with a hard hit ball to left center that had extra bases written all over it but Lonsdale left fielder Marty Kalina got over to the ball as it landed near the warning track to hold Lane to a single.

Nick Rost hammered a 0-1 count pitch for a double to place runners at second and third with no outs.  Following a strikeout Dylan Valentyn connected for a 2 RBI single ending up at second base on the throw home attempting to get Rost who never hesitated going home.

#9 batter in the Faribault order Jack Jandro reached on an error which advanced Valentyn to third base.  Blake Langerud hit an RBI single with Jandro hustling to third on the hit.  Jandro would score on a groundout off the bat of Danny Pierce.  Eight men came to the plate.  4 hits and an error factored into the multi-run inning.

Bonde was cruising along.  He faced 13 batters through the first four innings allowing one single.  After an out was recorded in the top of the 5th inning Lonsdale shortstop Isaac Pint stroked a single to right field.  Designated Hitter Ryan Roby walked.  Following a strikeout #9 hitter Jordan Yetzer also walked to load the bases with two outs.

Marty Kalina hit an 0-2 pitch for a double scoring two runs.  Yetzer would score on a wild pitch to make the score 4-3.

Faribault would score 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning thanks in part to two errors some walks, two wild pitches, and a hit batter. Nick Rost opened the inning with a single to right field.  Hunter Nelson went in to run for him. Mitch Johnson was walked, Adam Kline went in to run for him.

Valentyn was walked to load the bases.  Ryan Archambault came to the plate hitting for Jandro and on a 2-1 count was hit by a pitch for an RBI.  Jandro went to first base to run.  Following a strikeout Pierce gained first on an error.  Jandro advanced to third base

Joey Grote hit a fly to center that was caught and scored two runs due to a error on the throw home that allowed Pierce to score.  He never hesitated going home on the play.  It was 9-3 Lakers.

Faribault scored two more runs in the 7th when Nick Rost reached first base after a strikeout passed ball.  An attempt to pick him off resulted in an error to advance him to second  base.

Adam Kline hit the ball to the right side of the infield for a productive out advancing Rost to third base.  Following a pop out for the second out Jandro hit an RBI single.  Blake Langerud was walked.  During a Pierce at bat Langerud stole second base and despite the cut off play Jandro raced home on the double steal for the final run of the game for the Lakers.

Ross Beumer led off the 8th inning with 0-1 count triple to the fence in right field.  Bonde was lifted. Beumer would score on a groundout by Devin Vosejpka.

Fjerstad went 5 2/3 innings for Lonsdale throwing 98 pitches, 59 for strikes with 4 strikeouts, 3 walks and a hit batter.  He allowed 9 hits.

Dominick Miland relieved Fjerstad gave up a hit and recorded the final out of the inning.

MIland recorded the strikeout of Nick Rost that opened the 8th inning for Faribault with Rost at first due to the passed ball following the strikeout.  Two outs later Jandro hit an RBI single and later in the inning would score on the double steal.

Ryan Roby threw the 8th inning for the Aces allowing singles to Tyler Francis and Nick Rost but no runs scored.

Miland recorded 40 pitches in 1 1/3 innings, 24 strikes with 1 strikeout, 1 walk, 1 hit allowed, 2 runs but none were earned.

Roby threw 18 pitches, 12 strikes, 2 strikeouts, 2 hits in his inning of work.

The top 5 teams in the DRS League advance to the Region 3C Tournament which begins Sunday, August 8, 2021.

The remaining teams play best of three game series beginning Tuesday, August 3, 2021.  #6 Prior Lake is scheduled to host #11 Veseli 7:30 p.m.

#10 Shakopee travels to #7 Lonsdale Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and #8 St. Benedict has Webster come to their place.

The second games are scheduled for Thursday and if a third game is necessary would be played Friday.

Top seed, regular season Dakota Rice Scott (DRS) League Champion St. Patrick sees the 3rd highest playoff winner Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.

#3 seed Faribault entertains the 1st highest playoff winner also at 1:00 p.m. that day.

The 4:00 p.m. Sunday games are #4 seed Montgomery hosting #5 New Prague and #2 seed Union Hill has the 2nd highest playoff winner come to their ballpark.

Four teams from Region 3C advance to the State Tournament being played in Chaska, Waconia and Hamburg.
