Lakeville South Advances to Prep Bowl
The Lakeville South Cougars dominated St. Michael-Albertville 40-14 today in MSHSL Class 6A State Semifinals.
The undefeated Cougars were ahead 27-0 at the half and led 40-0 going into the fourth quarter.
The #1 ranked Lakeville South team runs the Triple T offense which features power running. Their Offensive Coordinator is former Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Head Coach Jon Bakken.
I ran into him at the grocery store in Faribault one day and asked if he wished he had used the offense when he was with the Buccaneers.
He said they did run a variation of it and yes if he was starting a program again he would use it because you can do so many options.
Lakeville South threw 3 passes, completed 2 for touchdowns. Total yards passing 57.
The Cougars rolled up 331 yards on 43 carries while adding 4 more touchdowns on the ground. Total yardage was 388 to 218.
It was a nightmare of a first half for the Saints with three fumbles on their first four drives and two punts in their other first half action.
Carson Hansen (6'1, 190, Jr.) racked up 201 yards on 14 carries with 3 toucdowns for Lakeville South. Quarterback Camden Dean (6'0, 175, Sr.) added 40 yards on 4 carries to go with his 57 yards passing..
Hansen also caught one of those passes for a 34 yard scoring strike. The other air TD was thrown to tight end Chase Androff (6'6, 235, Sr.) covering 23 yards.
St. Michael-Albertville scored their two touchdowns in the final 8:04 of the game.
The Saints finished the game with 4 fumbles. Lakeville South had 2.
Cougars linebacker Owen McCloud (6'1, 218, Jr.) had 9 solo tackles, forced two fumbles. Fellow linebacker Zachary Juckel (6'3, 210, Sr.) tallied 7 total tackles, forced a fumbe. Defensive lineman Delainey Suraju (6'0, 235, Sr.) added 7 tackles, 2 for loss and a sack.
Lakeville South linebacker Mikai Stewart (6'0, 200, Sr.) returned a fumble 41 yards, had a tackle for loss and two pass breakups.
The Cougars play Friday, November 26, 2021 7:00 p.m. against the Maple Grove Crimson (11-1) for the Class 6A State Title.
The Crimson were rated #4 in the final Minnesota Associated Press High School Football Polls in Class 6A.
