Minnesota Gopher Wrestler Wins Gold In Absolute Thriller Ending
Tokyo (KROC AM News) - Another Minnesotan is bringing home a gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics.
Gopher star wrestler Gable Steveson did so by wining a thrilling match Friday morning, scoring his decisive points at the buzzer.
The Apple Valley heavyweight had a 5-2 lead in the match but was trailing 8-7 when he scored his final 2 points as time ran out. Another point was added when his opponent Geno Petriashvili lost a challenge, questioning whether Steveson’s points came before the timer stopped.
Friday’s points by Petriashvil were the only ones scored against Steveson in his four Olympic matches.
And Steveson won more than a covered gold metal - try $250,000 through a special fund.
