Minnesota Gophers Do Something They Haven’t Done In 70 Years

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Golden Gophers football team trounced Nebraska Saturday night 34-7 at TCF Bank Stadium. With the win, the Gophers did something for the first time in 70 years, winning eight games in a row.

The Golden Gophers sit 6-0 on the season, the first time the team has had that mark since 2003 when Glenn Mason was the head coach. The Gophers ended the 2003 season 10-3 and a win in the Sun Bowl over Oregon.

It was also the first time that Minnesota cracked the top-25 in the Associated Press Poll and the Coaches poll since 2014. The maroon and gold were slotted 25th in the coaches poll this past week and made the jump to number 20 in both polls. It is the highest-ranking in either poll since the squad was ranked 20th in 2008.

The Gophers are one of 12 undefeated teams remaining in college football, and hold the third-longest winning streak in the nation at eight games, dating back to last season.
