Washington, D.C. (KROC-AM News) - The U.S. Agriculture Department has announced a recall of about 2-million pounds of poultry products that were sold to customers in Minnesota and seven other states.

At this point, it’s unknown who the customers are.

The department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service says the products were sold by Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc. of Gentry, Ark. The recall was issued after the company discovered the products ” may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal.” The poultry items were produced from Oct. 21, 2019, through Nov. 4, 2019.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in institutional freezers. Institutions that have purchased these products are urged not to serve them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

A spokesman for Simmons told KROC AM News all the affected customers have been notified. Senior director of communications Donny Epp says the products were sold in bulk to non-retail customers. The FSIS news release about the recall only identified the customers as “institutions.” Epp said Simmons is not releasing the names of the affected customers at this time.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Donald Miller, senior vice president of sales at Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc., at (888) 831-7007.
