Let the games begin, or least the practices. Monday, August 16 marks the opening of the 2021-2022 high school sports season. Teams are scheduled to play their normal allotment of games and events with a full playoff slate and the usual spots for state tournaments. Keep your fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly.

If there are no pandemic interruptions, it will be the first full fall season since of 2019. Last year football started late and only played one playoff game. Volleyball was cut short with no playoffs. Other sports played out through a modified section schedule with no state tournaments.

Volleyball, soccer and cross country are adding classes this year. Owatonna will remain in the largest class for all sports except football. Blooming Prairie is moving up to AA in most sports. Triton is shifting to the Gopher Conference for the first time.
