Minnesota Zoo is Working on a Walking Trail in the Treetops
A big project is being worked on at the Minnesota Zoo. Remember the monorail? I don't recall when they stopped doing rides on the monorail but they are officially revamping the monorail track into a walking path. And yes, they're still keeping the walking path up in the trees.
I remember going to the Minnesota Zoo every summer with my family. Every time we went we always had to go on the monorail. My brother and I thought it was the coolest thing ever! Now the monorail is officially closed, which is sad, but I think kids will find this path they're building equally exciting.
They're calling the path the Treetop Trail which obviously fits because you'll literally be walking in the treetops. They have a video on the Minnesota Zoo website featuring different mockups and it looks really nice!
There's plenty of walking room, it looks like there will be a covered observation area. You'll be able to see some of the animals from above and it seems like it'll also be a very relaxing area because you'll be up in the trees. To me, that seems like the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Construction on the trail began this past Friday, April 29th with an official event at the zoo. KARE 11 writes that the zoo plans to have the project done by the summer of next year. The trail, in total, will be a 1.25-mile-long loop. I'm excited to check it out once it opens!
