The Minnesota state bird is here and it has one goal - it wants to suck your blood!  Unfortunately, according to the latest reports, it sounds like the mosquito is planning on being more of a pest to us than normal.

According to the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District, they are stating that the number of mosquitos that we see this summer are possibly going to be more than what we had to swat away last year.  That is NOT good news, but there is a real scientific reason why this is the prediction.

They looked at the weather patterns showcased by the National Weather Service and NOAA for June, July, and August and saw that our precipitation will be returning to normal.  If that is true, the mosquitos will be in heaven and procreate like crazy in all of the areas where standing water might exist.

  • (aka mosquito season) starts in early April to late May - whenever the temperatures go above 50 degrees for about a week.

How bad will the mosquitos be this year?

  • Unfortunately, due to the temps and the fact that it is predicted we will have a warmer and wetter summer, the mosquitos are going to love us even more.  Pests.org is predicting that we will see a "slightly above-average mosquito population" this summer.
