The Steele County Fair is a free fair. If you find street parking and bring your own peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you could attend and not spend a nickel. But what fun is that? Plus, every year there are several new food options. This year a couple of regular food vendors are back in Owatonna, said fair manager Scott Kozelka during his weekly appearance on Fair Talk on AM 1390 KRFO/94.7FM.

"I'm excited to let everyone know that we have some old foods that haven't been with us for a couple years...OZ Taffy is back. We're glad to have them. This will be their 99th or 100th year at the fair. And everyone missed it last year, and not having it for two years, but Duke's Poutine will be back with us."

"And several years ago we had Waffle Chicks as one of our New Food winners. And right after they were at our fair, they had the chance, being that they had such a neat product, to get into the Iowa State Fair. Well, since then they built a few more trailers and they're coming back to the Steele County Free Fair," Kozelka added.

DeAnna's is also back with some new items, "They're bringing in a deep-fried banana pudding. And their other one that looks really different is called the donut dog. It's actually a long john donut, sliced in half with a bacon-wrapped hot dog in the middle with that long john glaze all over it."

NEW FOOD ITEMS IN 2022

Agave Express - agave twinkies, tachos (tater tot nachos), and street tacos

Benny's BBQ - smoked pork belly bites, smoked bacon mac and cheese, yeti dog, and yeti tacos

Diventuri - deep-fried mashed potatoes, deep-fried buffalo chicken dip, deep-fried ravioli, deep-fried mac and cheese, and loaded french fries
