While Faribault's Fire Chief Dusty Dienst wouldn't recommend putting 132 candles on a normal size cake, which Dusty we TOTALLY understand, what if we went with something else, maybe something larger than a typical cake? A happy birthday/anniversary this year goes out to the folks running Nerstrand Meats & Catering, as they have been continuously operating since 1890, and that's no bologna!

I stumbled across the HUGE milestone from an early 2020 post from the Minnesota Historical Society on Facebook.

The post states that:

From MNopedia: In 1890, Adam Roth and his son, William E., established a butcher business in Nerstrand (Rice County) that grew to specialize in smoked and grilled meats—particularly bologna and wieners. In 2019 the family-owned enterprise, Nerstrand Meats, and Catering celebrated 129 years of continuous operation. Photo: Rice County Historical Society, used with permission.

Math hasn't been my strong suit, but it's been 3 years since 2019, which puts Nerstrand Meats as being 132 years old this year, and that my friends is seriously impressive.

The business itself does a little bit of everything, from wood-smoked meats to ready-to-eat sausages, and they even have catering options, you can get just about everything you'd think you'll need at the shop. The business is in the hands of its fourth-generation family members who are working at the store, and according to their website, their products make them "one of the best meat suppliers in Southern Minnesota."

If you've never been to Nerstrand Meats and Catering before, hop in the car and give them a visit they are located at 231 Main St in downtown Nerstrand.
