St Paul (KROC AM News) - The man who murdered an area police chief more than 30 years ago has once again been denied parole.

The Minnesota board that reviews the life sentences of Minnesota prisoners held a hearing Tuesday and reviewed the case of Andrew Salinas. He was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Claremont Police Chief Greg Lange in 1988.

This was the third time Salinas was up for a potential early release.

His life sentence was given at a time when state law allowed for early release after a person served 17 years. It was later changed to a minimum of 30 years. The legislature also added a provision of life with no parole for persons convicted of killing a law officer.

The board decided it will review his case again in three years.

It was also decided that Salinas will be transferred from the high-security prison in Rush City to a less secure facility.
