The Faribault Falcons and Northfield Raiders girls hockey teams gave fans a very good game tonight at the Northfield Ice Arena.  The Raiders came out on top 3-0.  Both goalies were very good.

Northfield had a few more quality shots than Faribault which proved to be the difference in the game.  I thought the Raiders passed the puck better than the Falcons and limited their shots in the middle.

The first period was scoreless with Northfield outshooting Faribault 12-8.  Twenty three seconds into the second period the Raiders got their first goal when Ava Stanchina scored her 5th goal of the season when she stuffed the puck into the net on the glove side of Falcon goalie senior Mikayla Bohner.

Bohner told the official she had the puck covered.  He discussed it with his partners and they determined it was a good goal.  Faribault Head Coach Mike Dietsch said the official was not in a position to see Bohner had the puck covered which was a bad break for his team.

The Falcons came into the game with 1 power play goal in 8 attempts.  They had three more chances in Northfield and were unable to score.  Northfield also had two chances and came up empty but their second goal was shorthanded 10:21 into the second period.  Junior Jessica Boland scored her 4th goal of the season with an assist given to junior Payton Fox.  Shots in the second period were 7 for each team.

Boland also scored 5:19 into the third period.  Assisted by Fox (3) and Stanchina (1).  Faribault did have several chances to score but sophomore Maggie Malecha stonewalled them on most occasions. The puck bounced the wrong direction on a few others.

The Falcons outshot the Raiders in the third period 13 to 9.

Our Malecha's Auto Body of Faribault shot of the game was taken by Williamson right at the crease point blank. Malecha finished with 28 saves and picked up her third shutout in four games.

The Falcons came into the game averaging 7.2 goals per game and allowing 1 goal per contest.  The Raiders averaged 5.6 goals while also allowing 1 per game.

Northfield on more than one occasion had breakaways to the net that ended in an incredible save by Bohner.  She was chosen our Faribault State Farm Insurance agent Faribault player of the game with her 25 save night.

Faribault State Farm agents Jason Krohn and Tony Langerud sponsor our Faribault Player of the Game selections.

Northfield is now 4-0.  Faribault 5-1 to start their seasons.  The Falcons are at Rochester John Marshall Saturday with the drop of the puck at 5:00 p.m. Graham Arena. They play at Austin Tuesday with the game scheduled to be on POWER 96 Radio, 95.9 Fm and the POWER 96 app.

Northfield hosts Red Wing Tuesday and then participates in the St. Cloud Turkey Trot Friday and Saturday, November 29 and 30.
