Zachary Eustice and Collin Christenson of NRHEG shot at Saturday's state clay target shooting championships at Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.

Eustice hit 90 out of 100 clay targets. Christenson broke 89 targets. The champion, Woodrow Glazer of New Prague, shot a perfect 100-for-100 to win the title. Five shooters hit 99 targets. The top 100 shooters from the clay target regular season were invited to the Minnesota State High School League sponsored event.

In Saturday's team competition, St. Michael-Albertville won the title with 480-out-of-500. Hibbing (474) was second, followed by Blaine (470), Delano (469) and Apple Valley (467). Teams qualified for the event based on their performance at the recent tournament in Alexandria. More than 11,000 students, representing over 300 high schools, participated in trap shooting this spring.

This year marked the first year for Owatonna to sponsor a trap shooting team. OHS had more than 40 shooters on their team. About half went to Alexandria in mid-June. The Huskies shot 456, led by Weston Wilson and Brock Hanson at 93. Wilson and Andrew Esch each had a perfect 25-for-25 round.

Owatonna recently named their team award winners. Hanson had the high average for the team and was second best in the the conference. Ellie Youngquist was the high average for the girls. T'ea Boerner and Noah Schamp earned the most improved awards.
