NRHEG Volleyball Reaches Finals, Will Play WEM Thursday
NRHEG volleyball rallied after dropping the first set in a playoff showdown against Maple River Monday night at Mankato East High School. The Panthers won 3-sets-to-1 by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-23 to reach the Section 2AA, south subsection final against WEM to by played Thursday, November 4 at New Prague High School at 6 pm.
On Monday, the Panthers showed their usual balance on offense. Bree Ihrke and Sophie Stork each had about a dozen kills along with several blocks each. Hallie Schultz and Erin Jacobson came in with about six kills. Sarah George delivered a handful of kills and at least as many ace blocks. The Panthers had ten service aces.
WEM won its subsection semifinal in a sweep over Minnesota Valley Lutheran, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14. Alexandra Heuss knocked down about ten kills. Riley Sammon and Claire Bohlen each contributed about six. The Buccaneers delivered 14 ace serves.
The Bucs (17-12, No. 1 seed) swept the Panthers (16-12, No. 3 seed) in September.

The north subsection final features top-ranked Southwest Minnesota Christian against second-seed Belle Plaine at about 7:45 pm on Thursday. The winning teams will reconvene at St. Peter High School on Saturday, November 6 for the Section 2AA championship at 8 pm.
In other southern Minnesota volleyball, the Section 1AA semifinals are Thursday, November 4 at Mayo Civic Arena starting at 6 pm with Cannon Falls against Lake City on Power 96 radio. Then Zumbrota-Mazeppa plays Caledonia.
In Section 1A semifinal play Thursday in the Mayo Auditorium, Bethlehem Academy faces Spring Grove at 6 pm, followed by Mabel-Canton and Kenyon-Wanamingo. Both matches will be on The Mighty 920 KDHL.
