The American Public Power Association recently held their annual Engineering and Operations Technical Conference. At this conference, Owatonna Public Utilities earned the Reliable Public Power Provider or RP3 designation. This award is given for providing reliable and safe electric service. There are four areas of proficiency that determined those who receive this distinction. They are reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity are also determining factors. The RP3 designation lasts for three year. Owatonna Public Utilities joins more than 275 public power utilities nationwide to achieve this designation.

The American Public Power Association has offered the RP3 designation for 14 years.
