The sub-state tournament quarterfinals for District 1 begin Tuesday with Owatonna Post 77 hosting the Rochester Eagles at 7PM.

Ironically, Owatonna was scheduled to play the Eagles on Saturday in the regular season wrap-up, but the game was canceled because the Eagles were short players. After Rochester edged Kasson on Sunday 9-8, they will make their way to Fuller Field at Dartt's Park on Tuesday for the quarterfinal round of the double-elimination tournament. Game time is 7PM.

Post 77 won their last two games, coming from behind in each, to finish the season at 10-6, 7-2 in the district, for the No. 2 seed. Austin (10-0 in the district) is the top seed and hosts the Rochester Redhawks on Tuesday. The Patriots are at the third seed Rochester A's at Century High School, while Winona goes to fourth seed Albert Lea to round out the quarterfinals.

Games are nine innings for the playoffs, compared to seven during the regular season. Other rules changes include no re-entry and no courtesy runners.

All games shift to Fuller Field on Thursday, with the championship semifinals at 4PM and 7PM. Loser's bracket games start Friday at 10AM. The tournament continues Saturday with the championship game set for 1PM Sunday. The state tournament is at CHS Field in St. Paul.

Owatonna's VFW team will also play at home Tuesday, hosting Lourdes at 5PM. Post 3723 won 8-4 at Stewartville in eight innings Monday night. The Owatonna Aces amateur team takes to their home diamond Wednesday against Rochester at 7:30PM in a KRFO AM 1390 broadcast game.

Medford's American Legion team finished second in their sub-district, advancing to the four-team district tournament Thursday in La Crescent against Caledonia at 7:30PM. Adams will play St. Charles at 5PM.
