The Sand County Foundation and Enel Green Power North America Inc. have announced the recipients of their $1,000 pollinator habitat grants. Two are from our area. NRHEG is a recipient as is the Owatonna FFA Chapter.

The recipients in addition to the $1,000 grant will receive  a teacher training webinar and a consultation with a native plant nursery. The ten schools will be getting around 600 seedlings of five native wildflower species next month. The students will then raise the plants in school greenhouses, transplant them in the spring and maintain and monitor the plants throughout the summer.

Pollinators are essential for crop pollination. Native Bee and monarch butterfly populations have fallen off due to the loss of native wildflower habitat.
