Owatonna Football Passes Tougher Test; Triton Comes up Short in Upset Bid

Owatonna High School football coach Jeff Williams said the Huskies passed a tougher test in their 46-7 week two victory over Rochester Mayo and faces an even tougher task upcoming Friday September 15 when the 2-0 Huskies go to the 2-0 Austin Packers. He describes the Packers' defense as being like an amoeba that mimics the offensive set that it sees.

He also spoke on Saturday's coaches show about a new weapon the Huskies have in their arsenal. Six-foot-four senior tight end Nolan Malo caught his first career touchdown pass and gives Owatonna an imposing force across the middle.

The Huskies picked up several first downs on penalties Friday night. Williams said Mayo's aggressiveness in blitzing led to those plays that kept alive Owatonna drives.

Triton had Caledonia on the ropes Friday night leading 27-7, threatening to snap the Warriors' 29-game winning streak. But Cobras' coach Don Henderson said Saturday that Triton ran out of gas down the stretch and couldn't deliver the knock out blow. However a 34-27 loss to the top-ranked team in Class A shows that Triton should be a team that will contend for a section title.

Triton plays at Chatfield Friday night.
