Owatonna's girls tennis team opened the Section 1AA playoffs with a 7-0 sweep of Faribault at the OHS courts Tuesday. The No. 2 seeded Huskies improve to 17-1 on the season and will host No. 7 Hastings Thursday at 4PM.

The Huskies' girls soccer team won its Senior Night match over Austin 7-0 at the Lincoln Complex, out shooting the Packers 11-1. Senior Sophie Amundson and junior Jordan Whalen each scored twice. Senior Hannah Grebur, senior Kenna West and freshman Grace Wolfe also scored. Senior Ali Golberg had two assists.

The other seniors are Julia Haarsted, Bria Wachowiak, Sarah Spears, Margo Achterkirch, Stephanie Leibl and Jamie Davison. Owatonna (12-3) wraps up the regular season hosting Mankato East at 7PM Thursday. Section playoffs begin next week.

OHS grad Sydney Kasper, a junior with Wisconsin-Stout, earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association (WIAC) women's soccer offensive player of the week honors by scoring two goals including the game winner against Hamline in a recent match.

The Owatonna boys soccer squad fell at Austin 6-0. The Packers built a 5-0 lead in the first half and stayed unbeaten in Big Nine Conference play. Austin and Rochester Mayo are unbeaten in league games and played to a 3-3 tie head-to-head recently. OHS goes to Mankato to play East at Kennedy Elementary School at 4:30PM.

Owatonna volleyball lost to Red Wing 3-2 Tuesday. The Wingers grabbed the first two sets 25-18 and 25-23, but OHS rallied to take the next two games 25-20, 25-17. Red Wing won the fifth set 15-10. The Huskies host Faribault Thursday at 7PM on KDHL AM 920.

In other volleyball, Waseca beat Triton 3-1. No. 1A Mayer-Lutheran swept No. 3A Faribault Bethlehem Academy 3-0. Top-ranked in AAA Eagan blanked second-rated Lakeville North 3-0. Austin beat Mankato East 3-1 for their first Big Nine win since 2011. Big Nine leader Northfield scored a 3-0 win over Winona.
