The Owatonna Public Library along with the Owatonna Public Library Foundation have teamed up to present "Owatonna Reads" The featured book will be Michael Perry's Population:485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time. This book is Perry's story of his return to his hometown in Wisconsin after a twelve-year absence. He joins the volunteer fire and rescue department and then focuses in on the interesting characters he meets. The library has free copies of the book available on the 2nd floor check-out while supplies last.

There are a number of events scheduled for September to coincide with the reading of this book.  Library Director Mark Blando will host a forum with first responders on September 17 at the Owatonna fire Station. The public is welcome to attend and hear about training and experiences had by first responders.

There will be a pair of public discussion sessions on the book at the library. they will be held September 18 at 6:30PM and September 24 at 1PM. Then on Thursday, September 27 the author Michael Perry will present a program dealing with his book at the library. It starts at 7PM.

Perry is a New York Times bestselling author, humorist and radio show host.
