A pair of road construction projects in Owatonna begin on Thursday, July 23. One will be a short four-day project for some work at a railroad crossing. The other is a longer term disruption that have some lane closures that cause some delays.

The Steele County Highway Department distributed press releases on the work. "Construction crews will close Rose Street between Pine Avenue and Chestnut Avenue July 23 to complete pavement rehabilitation work at the railroad crossing. A detour will be posted using Pine Avenue, Cherry Street, and Chestnut Avenue."

The release states the work is part of a four-year project that includes complying with Americans with Disabilities Act standards and constructing a roundabout. The mini roundabout at Rose and North Grove has opened for use.

Regarding the other work, "Construction crews will begin work July 23 to resurface Hoffman Drive from Pearl Street to State Avenue. The road will be open to traffic but will have lane closures. Motorists should expect delays."

This project is expected to continue until mid-September. Work includes storm sewers, curb and gutter, milling, and traffic signal updates.

In both cases the highway department urges, "motorists to drive with caution and slow down through work zones for their safety and for the safety of the construction crews." Get updates on these and other projects at the county's website.
