After starting the season unranked, the Owatonna High School wrestling team is taking home the fourth place trophy from the team state tournament held Thursday at Excel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.

The day started with a come from behind 33-29 victory over Forest Lake. Owatonna fell to nationally rated Shakopee 46-17 in the semifinals and dropped a 50-19 decision to St. Michael Albertville in the third place match.

The Huskies finished their season at 22-9 in dual meets. Seniors on the state tournament roster include Jerez Autridge, Ethan Stockwell, Jackson Grunwald, Quincey Price, Luke Effertz, and Isaiah Noeldner.

In the third place bout, the Knights earned bonus points in each of the ten matches they won. STMA sent out at least five wrestlers who were top five rated in their weight class. The Huskies picked up a win at 120 as YJ Evillard won a 12-6 decision in a battle of top ten grapplers.

The next win for the Huskies didn't come until Autridge won a major at 145. Then top ranked Landen Johnson got a first period pin at 152 pounds to make the score 23-13. Noeldner pinned his opponent at 285 to close out the 50-19 final.

Johnson, Autridge, and Noeldner each went 3-0 during the team event. Johnson and Noeldner will pursue individual honors starting Friday afternoon.

Shakopee repeated as AAA team champ with a 34-21 over Stillwater Area. Simley dominated to win another AA title 48-10 Fairmont Martin County West. Class A honors went to Long Prairie Grey Eagle Browerville again with their 30-27 thriller over Blue Earth Area.

Attendance for the opening session Thursday was reported at 8,996 with the evening session at 6,390.
