Owatonnans Soar Into The Eagles Club to Raise Money for Cancer
Today is World Cancer Day, a day to bring international awareness to cancer.
Cancer, it has affected everyone in some way, shape, or form. We all know of someone who has been touched by cancer, be it personally, or a family member of a co-worker, friend of a friend, etc. Cancer, to put it bluntly, sucks bad. My dad has had cancer more than once, in remission now, Thank God. I have lost a friend to cancer, and another friend has been battling breast cancer. It's not fun to watch your friends and family members suffer through chemotherapy, surgeries, radiation, in the hopes that they will go into remission, and more importantly, stay in remission. You want to know how you can help, not only in the moment, but in the future.
The Owatonna Eagle's is hosting their 58th Annual Owatonna Eagles Cancer Live Auction, this weekend. Friday, February 7th, starting at 6 pm, and Saturday, February 8th, starting at 4 pm. There are many items to bid on, all of which have been donated, all of the people working on the auction, from all aspects, are volunteers, including the auctioneers. We had the Owatonna Eagles on "Talk of the Town" on February 3rd, and they spoke about the auction this weekend. It was stated that 100% of the proceeds from the auction will go to the 66th Annual 5th District Cancer Telethon. 100%! That is because there is virtually no overhead, all volunteers, no need to rent space, etc. Those proceeds will go directly to:
- Mayo Clinic Cancer Center
- U of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center
- Hormel Institute for Cancer Research.
They recently presented a check for almost $65,000 from the auction last year. That's a pretty big chunk of change there, and it's going to fund cancer research. Perhaps there will come day when there will no longer be a need for cancer research, that it will be be completely eradicated. We can only hope. Although it would be great to be able to be treated as you would for an infection, take some antibiotics and you are on the mend.
So, stop on out to the Eagles this weekend, bid on some great items, and know that your money is going to an amazing cause. They will even have a VIP table for you, and your closest friends to bid on, if you win, table service, a bar tab, and more. Plus that up close and personal experience as you are enjoying a night with friends and watching the auction.
