A man was arrested after several assaults were reported in Downtown Saint Paul yesterday. The man was wielding what was described by multiple online reports as a machete. It's unclear if any of the assaults involved the use of the machete at this time.

Seeing someone carrying a machete in any way is generally enough to cause someone to pause what they are doing, even for gardening uses, but to see one in an urban setting would be really unnerving for anyone in the area.

A crime watch page devoted to reporting Saint Paul's crime also commented on the string of assaults.

While there was a man with a machete in Saint Paul, around the same time there was a report of a man in Minneapolis also wielding a machete, with one online report claiming that the machete in Minneapolis was used on a victim.

It doesn't appear that these two machete incidents are related.

A quick search of Twitter shows that both cities have seen machete-related incidents over the last few months.
