Public Hearing on Expanding Mayo Clinic Kmart Parking Operation
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Council will hold a public hearing Monday evening concerning a proposed expansion of the surface parking facilities at the former Kmart site.
The City Council is being asked to approve a replatting of the adjoining AMPI property and a conditional use permit authorizing the park lot expansion. The plan calls for demolishing the west portion of the former Kmart building as well as some of the structures in the former AMPI complex.
According to city documents, nearly 400 parking spaces would be added on the AMPI property, while the demolition of the section of the Kmart building would provide room for almost 250 additional parking spots. There are currently about 740 parking spaces at the site and the proposal would boost the total to nearly 1400.
The majority of the parking spaces are and will be used by Mayo Clinic employees, but there are also some spaces available to the general public.
