Recalled Empanada ‘Products’ in Minnesota and Wisconsin Have FAKE USDA Inspection Label

Check Your Freezer For These Empanada 'Products'

SAS Foods Enterprises Inc., an Elk Grove Village, Ill., establishment, is recalling approximately 3,7008 pounds of beef and chicken empanada products. Is there anything wrong with these empanada products?

No idea, because they were never inspected the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). There's an inspection label on the things, but it's bogus.

The items in question were produced anywhere from January 1, 2020 to September 11, 2021. That's right...just this past weekend. What you're looking for are these frozen, fully cooked beef and chicken items...

• 1-lb. zip-lock bags or clear, plastic containers with “SAS Food EMPANADAS DE POLLO CHICKEN PATTIES.”
• 1-lb. zip-lock bags or clear, plastic containers with “SAS Food EMPANADAS DE CARNE BEEF PATTIES.”

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 38548” inside the USDA mark of inspection; however, the recalling company has no affiliation with Establishment 38548. These items were shipped to Minnesota and Wisconsin (as well as Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio).

They found out about the deal when an anonymous tip came in and hope you'll toss them out (our bring them back to where you bought them for a refund).
