Rice County Salvation Army Unit Volunteer Coordinator Jim Dale stopped by the KDHL Studio to enlighten listeners about the need to fill all bell ringing slots this holiday season.

Dale told us last year's campaign goal of $60,000 has been raised to $100,000 in hopes of having $90,000 to use in assisting people in need.

Dale says with inflation up by around 8 percent the increased need is obvious.

The local Salvation Army Unit is beginning their Red Kettle Bell Ringing Campaign on November 11, 2022 at these locations around the county.

Faribault:

  • Hy-vee Foods
  • Fareway Foods
  • Walmart Grocery

Lonsdale

  • Makenthunes

Northfield

  • Cub Foods
  • Family Fare

Shifts are two hours each with ringing occurring every Friday and Saturday through Christmas Eve.

The entire week of Thanksgiving (minus Thanksgiving) and Christmas bell ringers are desired.  Christmas lands on a Saturday this year so there will be a full week of activity.

Dale says they will need approximately $5,000 each day to reach their goal and believes it is an achievable goal if all shifts are filled.  He points out they have learned over the years a kettle must be accompanied by a human to generate interest in giving.

Dale adds this year there will be little kettles available at locations in Morristown and other communities without a formal Red Kettle.

Last year the Rice County Salvation Army Unit was able to assist 238 families in need including over 700 children.

600 backpacks were provided for school kids, a shoe program benefitted 40 school age youth, no charge camping programs were provided.

The Shop with a Cop program was completed recently with Dale labeling it a success.  12 elementary age children were joined by law enforcement personnel in Faribault and 12 in Northfield to shop for winter clothing.
