The Faribault Falcons girls hockey team traveled to Rochester Friday night for a showdown with the Rochester Lourdes Eagles.  The prize to the winner most likely the top seed when the Section 1A playoffs roll around in a few weeks.  The Eagles sent a message to Faribault by blanking the high scoring Falcons 4-0.

After a scoreless first period where Lourdes outshot Faribault 16-6 the Falcons had 4 penalties in the second period and saw the Eagles score two power play goals.  In fact 3 of their 4 goals came on the power play.  Rochester Lourdes tallied 28 shots on goal in the period and Faribault managed 4 shots on goal.

The Eagles added another power play goal in the third period.  Three penalties were whistled against Lourdes.  The Falcons were 0 for 3 on the power play.

To add to their troubles in the game the state's second best scorer, senior Olivia Williamson was whistled for two of the penalties in the second period.  Meaning she was not on the ice for 4 minutes of the period.  Senior Lang another high goal scorer for the Falcons had a penalty in the period also.  Faribault's second leading scorer senior Abby Goodwin was in the penalty box when the Eagles scored their third period goal.

It was a dominant performance by a team that has had Faribault's number the past few seasons.  Shots on goal were 60 for Rochester Lourdes and 14 for Faribault.

Faribault Senior goalie Mikayla Bohner had 56 saves on the night.

The Falcons are 15-3, Eagles 11-7 following the outcome.

Faribault has a week to work on what they need to shore up before the playoffs.  They host Owatonna next Saturday.
