Wabasha, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Mississippi River is on the rise again in southeastern Minnesota and has prompted the closing of a portion of Highway 60 in Wabasha.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Saturday morning that barricades had gone up to block traffic from the section of the highway just north of Highway 61 that runs under a railroad bridge and is highly susceptible to flooding in the backwaters of the river. MnDOT is also reporting that flooding has closed a portion of Highway 74 that runs from Highway 61 at Weaver to the town of Beaver due to flooding along the Whitewater River.

The Mississippi River has now risen back into moderate flood stage at Wabasha and is predicted to crest, for a second time this spring, about 3-feet over flood stage Monday afternoon. The river has also reached moderate flood stage at Winona, where the second crest is now forecast to occur late Tuesday night around 4-feet above flood stage.
