The National Weather Service says there's a risk of strong to severe storms across southern Minnesota late this afternoon into tonight.

A few showers and storms are possible early in the day, along with cloudy and smoky conditions. An Air Quality Alert remains in effect across southern Minnesota through midnight tonight for conditions that are unhealthy for all residents.

Storms that develop this afternoon into tonight will have the highest risk of becoming severe. Damaging winds and large hail will be the primary threats, with frequent lightning, heavy rain, and a few tornadoes also possible.
